Preschool & Pre-K

This is such a very special time in your child’s life. At Stonebrook Day School we prepare your child for entrance into the kindergarten and elementary school environment. Our carefully prepared surroundings are designed to take advantage of the child’s sensitive years— those times when there is a readiness to learn specific skills. Rich classroom environments, full of hundreds of learning materials, facilitate the learning of skills moving from the concrete to abstract learning process. They are designed to put children at ease by giving them freedom within limits -- a safe place to grow and learn with qualified, caring teachers.

Learning

Our preschool curriculum incorporates a careful combination of activities throughout the day that provoke interest, raise questions, and motivate intrinsic learning. Our environments, indoors and out, invite children to explore, wonder, play, and make connections. We recognize children as strong, capable beings.

Stonebrook Day School takes a comprehensive approach to reading readiness that includes letter recognition and phonics, plus many opportunities to experience the joy of books.

Our curriculum also includes hands-on, educationally sound instructional methods to teach handwriting. Research supports the active teaching of handwriting. Recent findings demonstrate that writing by hand improves creative writing skills and fine motor skills.

Using computers is an important component of our Preschool and PreK programs, allowing your child to practice and develop new skills through a variety of language, literacy, math and science lessons. Students learn about computers and technology in an environment that emphasizes collaboration and cooperation. Each of our preschool and prek classrooms have iMac computers and iPads in their Computer Center.

We believe that families are children’s first teachers. Your child is an individual who grows and develops within your unique family. Hence, we support families by having twice-yearly family conferences, family events, a Facebook news and activity feed, and monthly newsletters.

Playground

Learning is not emphasized at the expense of play. We believe constructive play is an important component of building a well-rounded child. Play activities are designed to promote socialization skills and to allow your child to enjoy themselves during this very special time of their life.

Stonebrook Day School is the only preschool and pre-K facility in the Murfreesboro area to provide children with a Natural Playground. Our Garden Classroom provides a unique and wonderful learning experience to the children.

Nutrition

Nutritional requirements are a big part of our preschool program. Healthy, balanced meals are provided for all preschoolers. All meals and snacks served at Stonebrook Day School are peanut-free. We provide fresh fruits and vegetables, a protein, dairy, and whole grains. Children with special dietary needs are welcomed. Children learn about health and nutrition as part of their education. Building a sound understanding of good food and nutrition will stay with a child long after they leave our care.

WebCams

WebCams in all of our rooms and on the playgrounds allow parents and families to share in their child’s day. Parents and Grandparents can monitor activity from anywhere via the internet.
